Mini fire extinguisher - S-AMFE - got ARGE certified for the use on trains

The S-AMFE – a mini fire extinguisher – got ARGE certified for the use on trains. The S-AMFE will now also allow train manufacturers to reduce fire safety approbation costs drastically for electrical cabinet equipment as well as lowering installation costs to a minimum while increasing safety on trains.

Last week at the InnoTrans 2018 in Berlin, Mr Volker Thiel from TÜV NORD handed over the official certificate to Mr Markus Fiebig, Business Development Manager at JOB GmbH. TÜV NORD has carried out a series of tests with the S-AMFE to certify the extinguishing capability based on the ARGE guidelines in combination with DIN EN 45545-2:2016-02 for rail-guided vehicles (e.g. trains). "All tests have been accomplished successfully and we are proud to be part of this new fire prevention technology", said Mr Thiel.

The innovative S-AMFE (Sensoric - Automatic Mini Fire Extinguisher) technology is a highly effective solution to protect small enclosures of up to 1,5m³/53 ft³. The technology is based on a heat sensitive glass bulb for Sprinklers and can now be integrated in for example electrical cabinets on trains and metros. In case of fire, the S-AMFE detects and reports the fire to a fire alarm center and at the same time safely extinguishes the fire. The field of application within trains is diverse; the S-AMFE can protect for example control panels, electrical cabinets, and board kitchens to name only a few.

"We are very satisfied with the test results and the cooperative partnership with TÜV NORD. With the new certification, the S-AMFE technology will allow train manufacturers to reduce fire safety approbation costs for electrical cabinet equipment drastically, as well as lowering installation costs to a minimum while increasing fire safety on trains", said Mr Fiebig.
