AMFE - Automatic Miniature Fire Extinguisher

The AMFE detects and extinguishes fires inside enclosures such as electrical equipment preventing additional damage, the spread of fire and lengthy business interruptions

Built-in safety

JOB‘s AMFE (Automatic Miniature Fire Extinguisher) reliably protects devices and equipment in industry, rail, marine, digital signage, infrastructure, and consumer electronics such as electric cabinets etc. against the dangers of fire. The AMFE detects and extinguishes a fire inside of a protected device, preventing the spread of a fire.

The advantages at a glance

  • Easy to use
  • Very low maintenance (mostly a visual inspection and anual weighting or checking the pressure gauge)
  • Easy to install (retrofittable) also in small spaces
  • Variety of customer specific operating & releasing temperatures available
  • No water being used (gas)
  • Scalable to combine multiple AMFEs for protecting larger volumes
  • Robust and shock tolerant
  • FK-5-1-12 as highly effective extinguishing agent
  • Usable in various applications (home, rail, digital signage, industry, automotive, etc.)
  • Mechanical release; no electric power supply required
  • Release mechanism: qualified in the automotive and sprinkler industry
  • VdS certified, TÜV certified, MPA tested
  • Very cost effective

AMFE line variants

S-AMFE
AMFE with signal connections

The AMFE not only releases the extinguishing agent FK-5-1-12 but also signals that it has. In installations where accessibility is limited, the AMFE can be connected to a monitoring system by two connectors for reading an electric low voltage signal. Permanently controlling if the AMFE has been initiated (e.g. line control through a PLC or monitoring device) allows for precise knowledge about the status of whether and where a fire might have started in an otherwise hard to reach installation. The S-AMFE is rated for typical PLC signals of 24V/48V and 100mA. The connectors are standardized (6,3mm blade terminals).

R-AMFE
AMFE which can be triggered remotely

The R-AMFE works like a conventional AMFE, releasing the extinguishing agent when the thermobulb bursts after the activation temperature has been reached by heat (as in a fire sprinkler). Additionally, the R-AMFE can be triggered remotely by providing an electric current signal into the R-AMFE, causing a fast and precise increase of the heat at the bulb, ultimately resulting in a burst of the thermobulb assembled and release of the extinguishing agent FK-5-1-12. Thus, R-AMFE can operate much quicker than a traditional AMFE if controlled by a monitoring device which also reads e.g. smoke detector signals and, upon the early detection of smoke, initiates the signal to release the R-AMFE long before significant enough heat buildup. The applied current defines the time until the R-AMFE is initiated. As application requirements for the R-AMFE are customer specific, consulting the manufacturer is required to define electrical and mechanical details to guaranty reliable and sufficient operation.

Applications for the AMFE product line

The application spectrum of the AMFE is diverse: It ranges from railway applications (EN45545 certified), digital signage industry, museums and exhibits, machines, marine and automotive. And, of course, also for protecting critical infrastructure's electric equipement.

Marking / Traceability
Each AMFE is marked with a label which, in addition to the type designation and activation temperature, shows the JOB part number and a unique batch number. This batch number guarantees a 100% traceability of all components being used for the product. Thus, not only information about the components being used can be retrieved, but also details about all executed quality tests during the production process. In addition, the extinguishing agent cylinders, too, carry a unique serial number, which allows full tracebility.

Following our vision „A world where everyone is protected against the dangers of fire, everywhere and anytime“, we have further improved our automatic miniature fire extinguisher AMFE.

We offer the AMFE series in combination with red cylinders filled with FK-5-1-12. This allows our customers to use the AMFE effectively to protect larger volumes with a volume 7 x more than what CO2 could, meaning a small cylinder sizes compared to conventional standard gas cylinders.

As for the activation heads, AMFE offers three variants: standard, with a signal connection (for monitoring of activation) and a remotely releasable head, which would activate if a small electric current is applied to the connections, allowing for the extinguishing process starting by external sensors (e.g. smoke detectors with relay contact).

Yet, the proven and VdS certified functionality of JOB’s AMFE remains the same: the glass bulb (like being used in sprinklers) bursts when the set temperature is reached. A spring operated mechanism is activated and opens the cylinder; the agent is released and extinguishes the fire.
