EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM PROTECTS TECHNOLOGY CENTER FROM CONSEQUENTIAL FIRE DAMAGE

AMFE MINIMIZES CONSEQUENTIAL FIRE DAMAGE AT EWM GMBH

As one of the world market leaders in welding technology, it is customary to have high quality standards. The full-range supplier EWM GmbH from Mündersbach even goes one step further and speaks of a quality promise: Every machine, every hosepack, every torch, in fact everything marked with the company logo, should be of the highest quality and durability. Behind this guiding principle is a sophisticated quality management system consisting of state-of-the-art testing technology and reliable safety technology. EWM has focused its attention on the protection of electrical components in order to avoid operational failures at all times. Distributed over a total of 9 electrical systems, the automatic mini fire extinguishing units (AMFE) were installed at the end of 2023 in collaboration with Wichmann’s system technology fire protection experts.

The circulation racks to be protected must be regarded as critical from a fire protection point of view due to their high fire loads. They represent a “room within a room” and therefore cannot be controlled by extinguishing systems installed outside the units. As fires can break out in the shelves in the area of the control electronics and the electric motors, it is precisely these sources of fire that are protected by AMFEs. In addition, three ventilation units are among the devices that have been classified as “difficult to calculate” from a fire protection perspective.
